Use of Force Training and Critical Thinking with Chris Lussow
Tuesday Jan 07, 2020
Tuesday Jan 07, 2020
In this first episode of 2020, Adam speaks with Christopher Lussow, a 32-year veteran law enforcement professional with twenty (20) years dedicated to the Emergency Task Force (ETF). They talk Use of Force options, training, and how we can role out effective intermediate force options when needed.
EPISODE PAGE: https://thebreakdown.ca/022
Christopher’s experiences identified a gap in practice, so he implemented a peer-support program for officer-involved shootings. The program, available across Canada, provides a direct officer to officer connection, focusing on mental well-being, post-incident investigation processes, and inquest expectations.
In Canada and the United States, Christopher has extensive experience as an instructor and keynote speaker in both the classroom and larger conference venues, providing education and insight on a variety of tactical subjects and in-depth incident debriefings.
Currently, in his role as a provincially certified Use of Force Instructor for the largest municipal police academy in Canada, Christopher educates frontline officers in de-escalation, critical thinking, tactical warrant entries, firearms, and dynamic simulation training.

SPECIAL EPISODE: Making Great Action Movies with Christian Gudegast
Tuesday Dec 24, 2019
Tuesday Dec 24, 2019
Adam had the opportunity to sit down with the writer and director of Den of Thieves, Christian Gudegast. He explains just how difficult it is to make a realistic action movie in Hollywood and the extra steps he takes to ensure things are done correctly. They talk gunfights, tactics, special effects and everything in between. Enjoy this special episode as we take a dive into how movies are made.
EPISODE PAGE: https://thebreakdown.ca/020
Christian was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from the UCLA Film School in 1992, top of his class. His thesis film, Shadow Box, won the award for Best Student Film that same year. He has since written for major movie productions, including Soldier of Fortune, A Man Apart, and London Has Fallen.
In 2018, he made his directorial debut with the film, Den of Thieves, starring Gerard Butler and Pablo Schrieber. It centers around an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew planning a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.
From the gunplay and tactics to the undercover roles depicted by the actors in the film, this sits as one of the most realistic and true to life action films created. The follow-up to this film, Den of Thieves 2, is in pre-production and will begin shooting early 2020.

The Human Element: Building Communtiy During Crisis with Bryan Ward
Thursday Dec 19, 2019
Thursday Dec 19, 2019
Are you building a ‘human face’ into your department or agency? Dive into the importance of building relationships within the community and Bryan explains why children should be the primary focus for community policing programs around the world.
Even though they are over 8000 miles (13,000 km) apart, fellow podcasters Adam and Bryan find commonality in human response to tragic events, such as the terrorist attacks that took place in Christchurch, NZ in March 2019. Bryan discusses the personal effects of that incident, the impact on the community, and how the community policing initiatives practiced by the NZ Police Force allowed them to quickly reinstill the public’s confidence in their efforts.
EPISODE PAGE: https://thebreakdown.ca/019
Bryan Ward is a Senior Constable in Auckland, New Zealand. He has 23 years of police experience with 13 years in community policing. During that time, he was able to solve a number of crimes through his community contacts and networking.
His experience includes being the lead trainer for the Neighbourhood Policing Teams across New Zealand, facilitating and running training courses including community constable courses and UK conversation courses.
In 2004 he created 'Bryan and Bobby', a concept that was picked up as a TV series and educational resource and has been running on a number of platforms for over 15 years. In that time, Bryan has presented/performed live to over 1.8 million kids in that period from Houhora to Invercargill (top of New Zealand to the bottom).
He has been a keynote speaker for both NZ blue light conferences and NSW police blue light conferences and recently made a return to front line policing in 2015.
